This is a leisurely walk through my very own neighbourhood that is South-East Kreuzberg -parts of the former SO36. History and anecdotes about the Kiez are mixed with breaks and snacks at some of my favourite (and well-tried) restaurants and street food places.
Possible stations:
  • Oberbaumbrücke
  • Schlesische Strasse / U-Bahnhof Schlesisches Tor
  • Landwehrkanal
  • Lohmühleninsel
  • Wrangelkiez
  • Markthalle IX
  • Görlitzer Park
  • Markt am Maybachufer (only Tuesdays and Fridays)
Details:
The Tour begins at the Oberbaumbrücke. The actual cultural and gastronomical stations will be adapted for each individual tour.

The tour includes breaks and snacks at five different restaurants and street food places. This may include Ethiopian; Vietnamese, Peruvian, Austrian and German quisine. (Berliner Döner, Fallafel and/or Currywurst on request).
A 'snack' means a small portion -not a praline-size bite, so you can expect to receive a full meal during the tour. Drinks are not included, but may of course be purchased in addition. During the walk between the stations you wil learn some history and anecdotes about the neighbourhood - which is an area of Berlin that is in a moment of drastic change.
Have you ever heard of a church whose bell towers are on the vicarage across a courtyard from the main building? You will on this tour!
The tour can be adapted in lenght and of course to dietary needs and wishes.
This is a private tour of a small group. I will not carry a sign or an umbrella to herd you along (though our Kontext Bear would look really nice on a T-Shirt 🤔)
About me:
It was a very lucky coincidence that I landed in the very lively Kreuzberg when moving from London to Berlin and the area has become a truly beloved home Kiez for me.
The district 'Friedrichshain-Kreuzberg' -fused together during an administrative reform in 2001 (the two districts that nobody else wanted..)- is geographically in the very center of Berlin, though it never feels like this. It combines today some extremeley different neighbourhoods.
